The Buckingham Benefice Profile

The Buckingham Benefice consists of 5 rural parishes and the town parish of Buckingham. It is situated in  north Buckinghamshire, 12 miles West of Milton Keynes and 25 miles north east of Oxford.  We are a friendly, open and enthusiastic community, facing the challenges of the Christian life in the 21st century, and seeking to do God's work here.  Our worship is diverse in style and content, and our church activities many and varied.  The benefice has recently taken a decision to move towards a Team Ministry.

Key challenges for us are:  to become more relevant to, and have an increasing impact on, the life of our communities,  to make the vision of a Team Ministry a reality for clergy and parishes  to use our children's and youth work to reach the young people in the town and the villages  and  to underpin all that we do in prayer.

We are currently seeking a Rector for Buckingham -  someone who can build on what we have, and refresh our vision, will harness our skills and energies, give us direction and work with us, will participate, with us, in the life of our communities, and is passionate about outreach, and who has a sense of humour.

The Buckingham Benefice Vision

We want to be a worshipping Benefice family where all can find a spiritual home and be active in sharing God's love in the communities we serve.

We would like to develop our Benefice family to be one that attracts new members, where all ages and backgrounds are represented, and that seeks to discover and use the gifts of the laity.

We pray that with God's grace we may continue to work to His praise and glory.

How are we going to do this?
By:

  • deepening our own individual knowledge of the Bible;
  • helping others to know God's love;
  • serving our churches and local communities;
  • establishing a team ministry within the benefice;
  • developing individual skills to the benefit of the wider family;
  • developing mission locally and supporting mission abroad; and
  • growing in faith, hope and love.
  • Who is going to help us get there?
    Someone who:

  • is spiritually excited about the opportunities within our Benefice family;
  • can build on what we have and refresh our vision;
  • is passionate about outreach;
  • is ready to participate, with us, in the life of our communities and respond to the needs of the world beyond;
  • believes in underpinning action with prayer;
  • has a sense of humour;
  • And can demonstrate abilities and experience to

  • harness our skills and energies, give us direction and work with us to develop from a Benefice to a Team;
  • encourage and support children's and youth ministry;
  • encourage and support the development of lay ministry;
  • meet, deal with and encourage people at all levels within the community;
  • be personally well organised and able to both lead and delegate;
  • be able to pass on all these skills to a training curate and other team members.
